Harnessing AI for Scalable and Inclusive Content Creation: Enhancing Validity to Serve a Diverse Learner Population

DEI refers to the commitment to promoting diversity, ensuring equity, and fostering inclusion within all societal sectors. The traditional DEI review process for questions and tests involves a meticulous examination of content to eliminate bias, ensure cultural sensitivity, and promote fairness. However, this manual review process is fraught with challenges, including the difficulty of scaling to meet the demands of rapidly expanding content repositories and the inherent limitations of human reviewers in consistently identifying subtle biases.
In an era where diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are at the forefront of educational and professional discourse, the imperative to generate assessment content that resonates with a broad spectrum of learners has never been more pronounced. While AI has the potential to introduce bias into assessments, it can also reduce bias by creating more inclusive content, particularly on a large scale.
In this session we present a promising avenue of work; augmenting the DEI review process with AI tools.
During the session, we will demonstrate tools from two different companies pioneering the integration of AI in DEI authoring. We will examine case studies where AI has successfully been employed to create inclusive content and discuss the implications for future content development practices.
