Sara Vispoel, Ph.D., is the Chief Assessment and Learning Officer at Finetune: by Prometric. After starting off as a high school biology teacher and seeing first-hand how impactful high-stakes assessments and their associated scores were for her students, she went back to get her Ph.D. in Educational Measurement and Statistics to assure these tests were of as high quality as possible. She spent 17 years in senior management at ACT overseeing test development teams and assessment design across high stakes college-entrance exams, formative and summative assessments across grade 3-12, workforce, and noncognitive domains. In addition to leading assessment design, Dr. Vispoel has led execution of dozens of alignment studies, national curriculum surveys, creation of performance level descriptors/standard settings, as well as designing interpretive tools and integrated approaches to assessment and learning. She also has shared her expertise by participating as an adjunct faculty member on multiple PhD student dissertations at Texas A&M University.
Dr. Vispoel now works on incorporating generative AI with psychometrics, principled design and learning science to create leading edge AI-enabled assessment development and tagging tools. As the Chief Assessment and Learning Officer at Finetune, she and her colleagues have led the way in developing Generate® and Catalog™, the most advanced AI-enabled human-hybrid tools on the market assisting with writing assessment questions across all content domains and AI-assisted tagging of content. She has presented at multiple national and international conferences and has been recognized as one of the “Leading Women in AI” in 2024 by ASU GSV and a 2023 Fellow of Women in AI EdSAFE AI Alliance Leadership Network. No matter what the context, Dr. Vispoel is particularly passionate about anchoring tech with principled design to build in measurement best practices and validity of inferences coming from AI-enabled tools.
